Data retention and deletion policy

This page explains, at a high level, how Local Past should handle account closure, public contributions, and records that may need to be kept.

Account information

Account information should be kept only for as long as it is needed to run Local Past, keep people safe, meet legal obligations, or resolve a genuine issue.

Signed-in members can use the account data page to request access, correction, export, or deletion of account data.

Public contributions

Some contributions may remain useful as part of community history even if an account later closes. Local Past should support review, anonymisation, removal, or retention decisions depending on the type of material and the rights involved.

Safety and review records

Some records may need to be kept for safety, abuse prevention, dispute handling, rights review, or legal reasons. This page should be updated before launch with clearer time periods and responsibilities.
