    Philadelphia died at Summerfield Farm, Maresfield, Sussex on 18 December 1895. Aged 79 years, 5 months. Widow of Samuel Hazelden. The cause of death was given as "accidentally poisoned by taking harts horn in the middle of the night by mistake". The Hastings and Bexhill Independent reported on the inquest. Here is a summary of the article: Philadelphia Hazelden was 79 years old and had been unwell, spending much of her time in bed. At about 3.30 in the morning, she called out to her daughter, Mary Jane Taylor, saying, "I have taken something." When Mary Jane went into the room, she immediately realised her mother had accidentally swallowed hartshorn - the uncorked bottle was beside the bed, along with bottles of gin and brandy. Mary Jane tried to soothe the burns to her mother's mouth with vaseline while sending for the doctor. Although he treated her, the hartshorn had caused severe internal burns to her mouth, throat and stomach. Philadelphia died the following day from the shock of her injuries.
